The King of Jordan and Sunak discuss developments in the region and the war on Gaza

Amman – King Abdullah II of Jordan and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak discussed, on Sunday, current developments in the region and the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.

This came according to a statement from the Royal Court, after King Abdullah II received a phone call from Sunak, during which they discussed current developments in the Gaza Strip.

The king warned of “the danger of escalation in the region, which threatens international peace and security.”

He renewed his call on the international community to “intensify efforts to reach an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, to reduce the worsening humanitarian catastrophe in the Strip,” according to the same statement.

He warned of “the serious consequences of the Israeli attack on Rafah.”

The King of Jordan stressed “the necessity of protecting civilians in Gaza and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Strip.”

He pointed to “the importance of continuing to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), to enable it to provide its humanitarian services in accordance with its UN mandate.”

The statement did not mention the content of Sunak’s words in his call with the Jordanian king.

Since last October 7, Israel has been waging a devastating war on Gaza that has left more than 100,000 dead and wounded, most of them children and women, in addition to massive destruction and famine that has claimed the lives of children and the elderly, according to Palestinian and UN data.

Israel continues its war despite the issuance of an immediate ceasefire resolution by the Security Council, and despite its appearance before the International Court of Justice on charges of committing “genocide.”
