The Knicks sanctioned for tampering in the Jalen Brunson file?

Signed by the Knicks at the start of Free Agency, Jalen Brunson has not finished talking about him. It looks like the Mavs weren’t too happy with the way New York got closer to their now ex-player. And yes, it’s time to cause tampering.

The Mavs have it big, as Perceval from the Kaamelott series would say. Why then? Quite simply because the Texans have the impression of having been had in the Jalen Brunson file. While they wanted to extend Luka Doncic’s sidekick on the backcourt, Mark Cuban’s proteges were surprised by the Knicks. Until then, no problem, the player was a free agent and he was therefore free to sign for another team. The trick is the timing of the announcement. For most of the media, the fact that Brunson was going to sign in New York was obvious and the info had already leaked two or three days before the start of the Free Agency.. Rather surprising, isn’t it? Especially since the teams do not have the right to start negotiations with the players before midnight and one minute on July 1. The Big Apple GM had also cleaned up his contracts on purpose to have plenty of room to make him an XXL offer. Nobody is fooled and the Knicks had obviously started their flirt before this deadline. We think in particular of the presence of Julius Randle as well as several members of the New York front office on the sidelines during the first round between Dallas and Utah. Some thought that Donovan Mitchell was the target but obviously it was Jalen Brunson who had fans in the stands. There’s also the fact that Rick Brunson, Jalen’s father, joined the Knicks as an assistant in early June. Rather practical as timing!

Dallas therefore hopes that Adam Silver and his minions will tap on the fingers of Leon Rose. Fred Katz from The Athletic explained in a recent paper that many people within the NBA expect to see the Knicks receive a sanction. What to expect ? Guilty of tampering last year, the Heat and the Bulls had lost a second round of the Draft, the same for the Bucks in the exchanges with Bogdan Bogdanovic. We should logically arrive at the same price. Not enough to prevent the leaders from sleeping and we still wonder when the League will change its policy concerning the Free Agency. Isn’t it amazing that the Woj and Shams announce dozens of signings by midnight one when no team was supposed to speak to players before then? You don’t have to have attended HEC to understand that no one respects this rule. Unless Adam Silver really raises the penalties for tampering, the submarine talks will continue to happen.

Will the Knicks be sanctioned for tampering in the Jalen Brunson case? It takes the direction but, given the low penalty to come, not sure that the Mavs are fully satisfied.
