The Lamborghini Urus crossover accounts for more than half of the Italian brand’s sales, although it debuted in December 2017. It has a scheduled update already arrived, but now the Urus has entered the next phase of its production cycle: the Lamborghini Urus SE plug-in hybrid debuted at the Beijing Auto Show. This is Lamborghini’s second gasoline-electric model after the hypercar. Scrambled.

However, the crossover’s hybrid powertrain has nothing in common with the Revuelto’s four-motor setup. It’s more likely to be linked to a cross-platform crossover Porsche Cayenne Turbo E hybrid. An electric motor (192 hp, 483 Nm) is integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission, and the 4.0 twin-turbo V8 engine is downgraded from 666 hp. and 850 Nm for the base version of the Urus S up to 620 hp. and 800 Nm. But the Urus SE nevertheless became the most powerful in the lineup, because the maximum power of its power plant reached 800 hp. and 950 Nm!

However, this exceptional performance had little effect on acceleration dynamics. Urus SE reaches the first “hundred” in 3.4 s compared to 3.5 s for the “esque” base and 3.3 s for the version performances. It all comes down to the curb weight, which has increased to 2,540 kg, which is 190 kg more than its gasoline counterparts. This difference was mainly ensured by a traction battery with a capacity of 25.9 kWh, installed in the underground trunk and guaranteeing 60 km of autonomy in purely electric mode.

However, if the first jerk is harsher for the Urus hybrid than for the gasoline versions, then continued acceleration becomes more vigorous. The Urus SE accelerates to 200 km/h in 11.2 seconds, while the S version takes 12.8 seconds and the Performante 12.4 seconds. The maximum speed of the hybrid is also higher: 312 km/h instead of 305 km/h for the two petrol variants. In purely electric mode, the crossover can reach 130 km/h. The driving electronics have acquired additional modes EV Drive, Hybrid, Performance and Recharge in addition to the already known Strada, Sport, Corsa, Neve, Sabbia and Terra modes.

In addition to the electric module, the hybrid also has a different all-wheel drive. Instead of a Torsen center differential, an electro-hydraulic clutch is installed (like the Cayenne), and instead of an active rear differential, there is a conventional open differential with electronically simulated locking. All this allowed us to save 20 kg of weight.

There were also visual differences from their gasoline counterparts. The Urus SE has a larger hood peak, different headlights and a stock front bumper. Enlarged air intakes improved engine compartment cooling by 15%. The redesigned tail, with a massive black bar between the lights, not only looks more like a Lamborghini supercar, but also helps increase downforce by 35 percent. There are wheels with a diameter ranging from 21 to 23 inches.

The show offers 47 color combinations and new additions. This is an enlarged multimedia system screen (12.3 inches), a different block of rocker switches on the center console, different coverings and ventilation deflectors. The Urus SE Hybrid goes on sale this summer, and this version will remain in service for at least four more years, as the second-generation all-electric Urus isn’t expected to appear until 2028.
