the latest data –

In the Campi Flegrei the ground has risen by about 2.5 centimeters in the last 21 days. This is the data detected by the Gnss station of Rione Terra, an ancient village of Pozzuoli in the heart of the Phlegraean municipality, and contained in the weekly bulletin of the Vesuvian Observatory on the Phlegraean Fields, with particular attention to the phenomenon of bradyseism. Since January 2023, the uplift recorded at the Rione Terra GNSS station is approximately 24 centimeters, of which approximately 6 centimeters in 2024. From January to early April 2024, the average value of the uplift velocity in the area of maximum deformation was about 10 millimeters per month. From 9 to 16 April, two episodes of ground lifting were recorded, respectively of approximately 1 centimeter (9-10 April) and 0.5 centimeters (15-16 April).

Campi Flegrei, the nightmare of the super shock. The expert warns: We must be ready

These two episodes were also recorded by the other GNSS stations near Rione Terra in a radius of approximately 2-3 km, with progressively decreasing values moving away from the area of maximum deformation. Subsequently, between 17 and 29 April, no significant deformations were recorded with the exception of the last two days, following the 3.9 magnitude earthquake on 27 April. In total, in the last 21 days there has been an uplift in the area of maximum deformation of approximately 2.5 centimetres. «A reliable estimate of the average lifting speed on a monthly basis can be made with the data of the next few weeks», explains the Vesuvian Observatory, underlining however that «on the basis of the current picture of volcanic activity, no elements are highlighted which would suggest significant short-term developments.”
