BEIRUT, March 4, 2022 (Xinhua) The Lebanese cabinet on Friday approved a bill to postpone the municipal elections for one year due to the lack of material and human preparedness.
Acting Lebanese Minister of Information Abbas al-Halabi said, in a statement read out at a press conference after a cabinet meeting headed by President Michel Aoun, that the council decided to approve a draft law that aims to extend the mandate of municipal and optional councils until May 31, 2023.
He added that the decision will be referred to Parliament to take the appropriate decision.
Parliamentary elections are expected to be held in Lebanon on May 15.
The last municipal elections in Lebanon were held in May 2016.
