The Legislative Yuan agrees that Xing Taizhao will be the attorney general

The Legislative Yuan will vote on the personnel consent case for the nominee for the Attorney General, Xing Taizhao, this morning. The voting closed at 11:00 a.m. and after the balloting began at about 11:30, Xing Taizhao obtained 33 consents from more than half of the legislators present at about 11:6. Finally, a total of 65 affirmative votes were obtained, and he will serve as the attorney general.

In accordance with Article 66(2) of the “Organizing Law of Courts”, President Tsai Ing-wen nominated the current Prosecutor-General of the Taiwan High Prosecutor’s Office, Xing Taizhao, as the Prosecutor-General of the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office. , consult the Legislative Yuan for approval. The Court Organization Law stipulates that the Attorney General shall be nominated by the President and appointed with the consent of the Legislative Yuan for a term of four years and shall not be re-elected.

The Legislative Yuan will vote at 9:00 am today on the right of consent for the nominee of the Attorney General, Xing Taizhao, until 11:00 noon. There are 113 members of the Legislative Yuan, and a total of 65 people received votes today.

At the same time as the vote was held, Zeng Mingzong, the general leader of the Legislative Yuan of the Kuomintang, held a press conference in the press room of the party group, expressing his opinion that he would not vote in the venue and would not endorse Xing Taizhao; Zeng Mingzong said that he hoped Xing Taizhao could do what he said and fully maintain the judicial system. Independence, increasing the people’s trust in the judiciary, maintaining social justice, and handling cases must be administered according to law, without any ideology.

As a result of the voting, Xing Taizhao received 65 votes in favor, more than half of the legislators present. Cai Qichang, the chairman of the meeting and vice president of the Legislative Yuan, announced that Xing Taizhao won the approval vote of more than half of the legislators present and agreed to be the attorney general of the Supreme Procuratorate.

Xing Taizhao holds a master’s degree from the Institute of Law of the Private Chinese Culture University, passed the special examination for judicial officers in 1974, and completed the 24th period of the Judicial Training Institute. The Chief Prosecutor of the Division, the Deputy Minister of Political Affairs of the Ministry of Justice, and the Chief Prosecutor of the Taipei District Prosecutor’s Office.
