The L’Equipe channel acquires new rights and becomes the official broadcaster of the Dakar. From January 5 to 19, 2024, it will exceptionally shake up its grid with a special device to live live the different stages of this race in the different categories (cars, motorcycles, trucks or “Classic”).

The Dakar enriches the channel’s portfolio of premium rights, which thus continues its strategy of unencrypted broadcasting of legendary motor races, such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans. A deployment that supports the success of motorsport, particularly among young people.

From January 5, 2024, viewers of the L’Equipe channel will be able to follow live this 46th edition of the Dakar, which will take place in Saudi Arabia for the fifth time and which will leave from the thousand-year-old city of AlUla to cross the country towards from the Empty Quarter and embark on a return journey which will end in Yanbu, on the edge of the Red Sea.

On this occasion, the L’Equipe channel is setting up a special daily program of nearly 4 hours of dedicated air time with 4 appointments:

From 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., “Le grand direct” will be followed with Messaoud Benterki. For the first time, a broadcast will be live from the special arrivals. He will also take us through the progress of the main participants as well as their first reactions.

“The Dakar Journal”, every day at 6:20 p.m.: Messaoud Benterki will return to the day’s stage in 5 to 10 minutes, to know and understand everything about the challenges of the race.

From 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., “the big summary” will be offered from Saudi Arabia: all the strong images from all the categories and the reactions of the competitors.

Finally, a rebroadcast on D+1 will be carried out from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the channel.

Around ten people will be mobilized on site, including 4 special correspondents who will collect the first reactions to the bivouacs and arrivals, thus ensuring total coverage of the event on the L’Equipe channel.

Jérôme Saporito, director of the TV division of the L’Equipe group : The Dakar is part of the heritage of French sport. It is the traditional January meeting for all car and motorcycle fans and it is also a human adventure bringing together nearly 850 participants. This is why the L’Equipe group has positioned itself with an exceptional system for this event which brings together everything that sport can bring in terms of suspense, thrills, emotions but also a change of scenery and dreams.
