The exchange rate of the dollar on the black market rose against the Lebanese pound today, to 92,500 thousand pounds for purchase and 92,700 thousand pounds for sale, compared to 91,700 thousand pounds for purchase, and 92,000 pounds for sale yesterday.
The price of the dollar today, according to the Central Bank of Lebanon, was 15 thousand pounds.
Tomorrow, the government will discuss with the Lebanese parliament the draft budget for the current fiscal year, after 9 months of delay. The data of the draft budget show that fees and taxes have doubled, and are now calculated according to the dollar of the “exchange” platform, while the deficit rate has tripled.
The caretaker government seeks to cover it by borrowing from the Central Bank of Lebanon, despite the Monetary Fund’s warning and the requirement of the four deputies of the Central Governor, to issue special legislation for any financing of the state, which opens the door to a wave of debates on several levels.
And with the deficit rising from 10 trillion pounds to 34 trillion pounds, the repercussions of covering it through the Banque du Liban will translate into an unprecedented rise in the dollar exchange rate.
