As Gwyneth explained, she used to be a huge Coldplay fan. “When I heard the music and I had such a strong reaction to it, I was like, ‘This is amazing,'” he recalls. “And I watched the whole thing, and I was like, ‘This band is going to be big,'” he recalls ENews Online.
Until one moment, Gwyneth knew Coldplay would be performing in the United States (US). Gwyneth and her friends went to one of their concerts and that’s when the dating rumors started to spread.
“Because I was there, someone wrote in the paper that we were dating. We had never met, and I was like, ‘What?’ He was five years younger than me. And I was like, ‘Please. We’re not dating. I just went to this place.’ But they kept writing stories all summer,” he said.
The first meeting
Gwyneth’s life changed when her father, Bruce Paltrow, died in October 2002. A few weeks while mourning the death, she remembered having tickets to a Coldplay concert.
At first Gwyneth planned to cancel it. But the friend suggested still going for fun to the concert, so that might help out move on from the time of mourning.
It was there that Gwyneth and Chris actually met for the first time. The two met when Chris’ assistant offered to greet each other backstage.
“Because the media said we were dating, his assistant named Vicky, came over and said, ‘Oh hi. Do you want to meet your girlfriend after the concert?'”
“So we went backstage and we met. And he (Chris) was very sweet. I met him when he was about 25 and I was 30. He was like Tigger the Tiger, jumping around.”
“I really didn’t think that we would date (after),” Gwyneth recalled.
