The Mac is approaching 10% market share in 2022

Canalys and IDC agree on one point: PC sales collapsed in 2022 (-16.4% for Canalys, -16.5% for IDC), a sharp drop which can also be explained by the simple fact that 2021 had been a record year in terms of sales. The successive confinements and the development of telework had then pushed consumers to equip themselves massively. The two market analysis companies are still in sync regarding the drop percentages of the main PC manufacturers: Lenovo (around -17%), HP (-25% and a little), Dell (-16.1% the two analysis firms), the top three suffered.

Apple is at the foot of the podium, and once again the Cupertino company fails to achieve unanimous forecasts. Canalys estimates that Mac sales fell by -6.2% over the whole of 2022, while IDC expects Mac sales to rise by 2.5% (Apple is even the only manufacturer to show growth in sales). The forecast difference is significant (as often) but the conclusion is the same in the end: the Mac ended the year with a market share of 9.5% for Canalys, 9.8% for IDC. On the Q4, the Mac is even around 11% of Pdm. Nearly 10% market share for the Mac, over a full year more, that hadn’t been seen since the mid-1980s, when Apple also sold a whole range of Apple II (IIC, IIe, Color, etc.).
