As early as June, farmers’ representative Joachim Rukwied warned in the newspaper ‘Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung’: “Drought and heat are a big problem in some regions this year”. According to him, the vagaries of the weather have impacted the cereal harvest. But other crops such as corn or potatoes, whose harvest is in progress, “will suffer from the level of temperatures”, he added. If it doesn’t rain quickly, “the losses are going to be high”.
