Breaking News: Medical Students Resit Professional Exam for Social Service Access

The Faculty of Medicine, through the Ministry of Medical Education, has administered the professional exam for the intermediate period of 2025 to students of the Surgeon Bachelor program. This exam is crucial for students to gain access to social service, a fundamental requirement for their academic and professional futures.

Exam Details and Participation

A total of 250 students participated in the exam, with 79 students from the Faculty of Medicine and 171 from incorporated institutions. The exam is designed to evaluate the achievement of competences established in the 2010 Curriculum of the Faculty of Medicine, ensuring that future graduates have the required skills before starting their social service.

Exam Structure and Phases

The professional exam consists of two phases: theoretical and practical. The theoretical phase was held on June 3 and 4 at the Tlatelolco Automated Evaluation Center and at the headquarters of incorporated institutions. It included 330 multiple-choice questions divided into two sessions, each lasting four hours per day.

To ensure transparency, academic staff supervised the exam at external locations, while security protocols were implemented at the Faculty of Medicine to protect the integrity of the evaluation. The practical phase took place on June 7 and 8, structured under the clinical examination modality known as Structured Objective Clinical Examination (ECOE). Students rotated through six stations, facing simulated clinical situations with standardized patients and specialized professors.

Virtual Exam Application

Given the geographical distribution of participants, some venues applied the exam virtually using digital platforms like Zoom, replicating face-to-face dynamics. This approach ensured that all students could participate regardless of their location.

Impact and Future Implications

Dr. Armando Ortiz Montalvo, head of the Ministry of Medical Education, highlighted the importance of the exam in identifying areas of opportunity in medical training. The results will help update content, reinforce teaching strategies, and prepare graduates for the challenges of professional practice.

The exam not only evaluates technical skills but also integrates aspects such as professionalism, population health, and autonomous learning, reinforcing the social and ethical commitment of the medical profession.

Results and Next Steps

Students will be able to consult their results on June 24 at 8:00 PM on the Ministry of School Services website (https://escolares.facmed.unam.mx/alumnos/pregrado). This examination is of high consequence for their academic and professional lives, ensuring they meet the required competences before starting their social service.
