The Mexican actor Andrés García died at the age of 81

The Mexican film and television actor Andrés García passed away this Tuesday at the age of 81, after several months of deterioration in his state of health.

“The National Association of Actors deeply regrets the death of our colleague Andrés García. Our condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. Rest in Peace,” wrote the National Association of Actors (Anda) via Twitter.

García was a well-known soap opera and movie actor, one of the so-called gallants, who was born in 1941 in Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic, and although he lived in his native country during his childhood, his parents migrated to Mexico and he obtained Mexican nationality.

It was in Mexico where he began his acting life, during his youth, and worked in Acapulco, in the southern state of Guerrero.

His most recognized role was that of Pedro Navaja in the film of the same name (1984). In 1967 he had participated in the movie “Chanoc”, a film that began a prolific career with close to a hundred films, but also Mexican soap operas such as “El privilegio de amar” or “El cuerpo del deseo”.

Although the cause of his death is unknown, the actor had suffered from diseases such as cirrhosis and leukemia.

Even the actor had shared videos through YouTube in which he recounted his state of health.

On April 1, his wife Margarita Portillo explained that the actor had presented low hemoglobin and platelets in his latest blood tests.

Organizations and colleagues expressed their condolences through Twitter.

The actress and singer Lucía Méndez noted in her message: “Rest in peace Andrés, our prayers are with you and your family. A great actor, a great friend was ahead of us, but our love today and will always be with you.”

“I can’t find the words … I thank God for giving me the gift of your love. I know that you are already in a better place. I will love you and remember you all my life with all my heart, my beloved Andrés,” wrote Anahí , from RBD.

For its part, the Teatros de Ciudad de México account posted on Twitter: “We regret the death of actor Andrés García (1941-2023). A prominent figure in film and television, he began his career in the 1960s and debuted with the film ‘ Chanoc’ in 1967. He participated in productions such as ‘Perfume de gardenias’, and ‘Three odd couples’. RIP”.

Likewise, the journalist María Luisa Valdez shared two images in which she appears with García and wrote a message recalling the moments of “talks, scolding and laughter”.

“Thank you for the trust we had in each other, the complicity of friends, from actor to journalist, the love we had for each other was great. I will always be your chinita, your favorite reporter as you told me,” the communicator finished.
