The Minister for Research on AI: – Challenges related to the exam

According to the government, NRK a target that 80 per cent of the public sector should have adopted artificial intelligence (AI) by 2025. In academia, that target is already in the process of being reached, believes the minister for research and higher education.

To the online newspaper Uniform Hoel tells the University of Oslo that the biggest challenges with AI for the university sector are related to assessment and examinations.

– We are completely dependent on society and employers having confidence in the papers that the students go out with, and that they reflect the knowledge they have. There, the traditional exam forms are strongly challenged by generative language models, he says.

Hoel points out that the government has given the Directorate for Higher Education and Skills the task of stimulating coordination in the professional environment, particularly when it comes to the examination regulations.

Soon, an AI regulation from the EU will also be on the government’s table.

– Norway is ready to introduce it, because we see that there is a strong need for an international regulatory framework. What the EU is about to adopt now is a long step in the right direction, says Hoel to the university newspaper.
