The family’s lifestyle, under poor sanitary conditions, and with the children not going to school, came to light after a hunter was reported to have set fire to his vehicle by the family in question. The couple and two children of the 45-year-old were arrested, who were all released and a regular trial was set for February 20. Many weapons were also discovered in their unique house and confiscated. They themselves speak of a community with religious and natural worship characteristics that is characteristic of the way of life of our ancestors, as the couple typically supports. With regard to the fact that the children did not go to school themselves, they raise practical issues of transportation as well as finances, while they claim that they are teaching them themselves.
Today, the representative of Stavros Balaskas, speaking to Mega, said that, “there are functional weapons, good ones, an M4 was found and the father said it belonged to a friend of his who has passed away. We are not cut off from the world, we just live like our grandparents, but we participate normally in society”, noted the father of the family, Manos Kalaitzidakis, speaking to Live News.

In the shantytown where they were arrested, the authorities found… improvised bows, arrows, an axe, knives, weapons hidden under stones and a… 30-meter tunnel. Charges were filed against those arrested and released for arson, violence against officials and judicial persons, intimidation, threat, dangerous bodily harm and violations of weapons legislation.
