The miracle of Borșa and its teachings

It is understandable the immense pain experienced by the parishioners, the community of the beautiful town of Maramureş and, therefore, words of respect are due for the actions by which the Diocese of Maramureş and Sătmar, the Archdiocese of Vișeului, as well as the parishes in the area have proven their solidarity in this very difficult trial. It is appropriate, at the same time, to convey a thought of appreciation to the faithful and the parish priest of Borşa because, under these circumstances, they managed to gather every evening of the Passion Week and make the Denies and Prohodes of the Saviour.

Fortunately, these acts of great beauty did not go unrewarded, because, after the traces of the fire began to be removed, the hundreds of believers who came to pray saw that, although the building of the shrine was completely destroyed, the icon of the Crucifixion To Our Savior Jesus Christ, the flag and the cross of the church were not burned. The faithful and the parish priest having, in this way, a sign of divine help to reunite on the night of the Resurrection. Here is news that, at the same time, makes us happy and strengthens us, those who live in all parts of the country. This is all the more so since, in the week before Easter, there were and, unfortunately, still are, many and worrying threats coming from very close to our country’s borders, from which we understand that the madness of unlimited power, of blind revenge and the cruel desire to shed innocent blood know neither mercy for fellow men, nor fear of the unforgiving but righteous judgment of God.

I am therefore convinced that the miracle experienced by the faithful from Borşa and from the historical region of Maramureş and Sătmar a few days after the wooden church burned to the ground must be an opportunity for all of us to understand better what solidarity and help mean, especially when our peers go through such painful trials. Teachings that we should have, in our souls and in our thoughts, this evening, when we go to take light and celebrate the Resurrection of the Savior. Celebrating, in this way, the revival of our power to last together, through faith, a new, more beautiful and better life.
