A member of the Democratic Gathering, Representative Wael Abu Faour, indicated that “Walid Jumblatt did not present the names because offering names has become” useless “because each party wants a president who meets its interests.”

In an interview with Al-Jadeed, Abu Faour said: “Putting out names has become useless, and every name that is put forward in the absence of the actual will to elect a president of the republic is a burning of the name, and the idea of Lebanonization of presidential elections does not exist, and there is no movement and internal discussion.”

He explained, “We have not been informed of any new position from Saudi Arabia, neither negative nor positive, and Saudi Arabia is re-reading its position on the candidacy of Suleiman Franjieh.”

He added, “There is a missing dimension in the presidential debate, which is the future for youth and citizens. There is no discussion of electoral programs, but only of names. What is required is to talk about political reforms such as administrative decentralization, the electoral law, and social reforms that ensure justice.”

And he continued, “to elect an inclusive and conciliatory president, and unfortunately, “we think that countries have no job or currency except Lebanon,” and there is selfishness and a lack of responsibility.

And Abu Fao added, “We are in constant contact with France, Saudi Arabia, and all countries that deal with the Lebanese file, and any future president must receive Arab adoption.”

And he stressed that, “Any candidate who meets the conditions of Arab adoption and the approval of the Christian blocs and is not a challenger to anyone, we are ready to consider his candidacy.”

Abu Faour pointed out that, “Political timing moved the file because the displaced have been present for years, and there are political goals that may include strengthening relations with Syria or strengthening the position of political figures capable of communicating with the Syrian regime.”

And he believed that, “what is required is to reduce the tension between the Lebanese and the Syrians, and what is required is to stop the politicization of the file, as well as a clear plan and reference that follows up the file of the return of the displaced.”
