The second season of the anime Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari (The Rising of the Shield Hero) is being the “gossip” of the critics of the season, since being one of the most anticipated premieres even of the year, apparently it is having a mediocre reception among the fans. Leaving aside the fact that the animation quality apparently dropped in the most recent episode and that much of the content was original, it was reported in a comment thread on Baidu that the version broadcast through the Bilibili platform was censored.

All the scenes of eroticism and battles with fierce depictions of blood in this episode were cut from the Bilibili broadcast, and the result is a light and flowing fight with sound, but no picture, which spoils the viewing experience immediately. At least I can get used to the sexy scenes or bleeding when fighting if censored with a light beam or something like that, but this time the scenes are directly cut, the battle is light and inexperienced. I paid to open a membership to see it legally on Bilibili but it seems that I have been completely cheated».
In summary, the transmission of the most recent episode of Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari through the Bilibili platform censored the representations of blood and eroticism (the latter referring to the moment when Raphtalia is stripped naked and dressed in her Katana Hero outfit). However, instead of applying the well-known light filters or black bars, the scenes were directly cut or one of the frames was frozen to make a cut in the sequence and resume it suddenly in another frame.
- In the following video, which is a compilation, you can see how at the moment Raphtalia is undressed the image stays static for a moment and then Raphtalia is shown already dressed. Then, in the fight between Raphtalia and the two white tigers, you can notice that the moment Raphtalia cuts them, the image freezes. Later, near the end of the video, Kizuna’s arrival to kill the white tiger is shown. There you can clearly see the aforementioned approach and the freezing of the image so as not to show the blood.
Sinopsis de Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari
The Four Heroes are a group of ordinary men from modern Japan summoned to the realm of Melromarc to become its saviors. Melromarc is a country ravaged by the Waves of Calamity that have repeatedly ravaged the land and brought disaster to its citizens for centuries. The four heroes are respectively given a sword, a spear, a bow, and a shield to defeat these waves. Naofumi Iwatani, an otaku, suffers from the curse of being the “Hero of the Shield”. Armed with only a measly shield, Naofumi is looked down upon and ridiculed by his fellow heroes and the people of the kingdom due to his weak offensive capabilities and lackluster personality.
When the heroes have resources and comrades to train with, Naofumi sets out with the only person willing to train alongside him, Malty Melromarc. However, he is soon betrayed by her and is falsely accused of taking advantage of her. Naofumi is then heavily discriminated against and hated by the people of Melromarc for something he didn’t do. With a raging storm of pain and distrust in his heart, Naofumi begins his journey to strengthen himself and his reputation. Later, however, the difficulty of being alone arises, so Naofumi buys a dying demi-human slave named Raphtalia to accompany him on his travels. As the waves close in on the kingdom, Naofumi and Raphtalia must fight for the kingdom’s survival and protect the people of Melromarc from their dire future.
