The referral of the corpse came with the record of removal, carried out by the Immediate Reaction Unit, Prosecutor’s Office 137-Coral 6 of the CTI on 22 bis street with carrera 48, after it was removed from the official van in which it was found. This vehicle was parked at the entrance to the residential complex where he lived with his wife and his three children: Prados del Salitre, a few blocks from the Prosecutor’s Office in Bogotá.

Although the post office The officer first reported the facts to Dávila’s wife and then to the Police (at about 6:46 in the afternoon), the case was dealt with by the CTI.

However, because it was the death of an officer and because the case became relevant, officers of different ranks and even the Military Police arrived at the scene.

Dávila’s name had appeared in the middle of the investigation into the alleged excesses and illegalities surrounding the investigation into the robbery —last January— of 7,000 dollars from the residence of Laura Sarabia, the then chief of staff of President Gustavo Petro.

The officer himself told criminal attorney Miguel Ángel del Río that EL TIEMPO had already spoken about his office —Advance Protection of the Presidency of the Republic—, located on the 13th floor of the Senderos de la Dian building, a few blocks from Casa de Nariño, and who feared that her name would come to light (See ‘Former babysitter case: other police officers mentioned in the investigation’).

‘Find the causes’

Six days after this newspaper spoke of the 13th floor, the CTI inspected it for nine hours, on Wednesday, June 7, taking computers and information found on hard drives.

Both President Petro and Defense Minister Iván Velásquez anticipated that Dávila committed suicide. But we are awaiting the opinion of Legal Medicine and a pronouncement from the Prosecutor’s Office due to the series of questions surrounding this case.

I was with Colonel Dávila’s family talking about his life. An officer with a brilliant career, he considered that the best thing that had happened to him was joining the police service of the Presidency. Hopefully the judicial investigation will look for the causes of his suicide. Why did he feel so cornered as to reach such a terrible decision, ”said the President, on Monday, June 12, after attending the official’s funeral.

The case of Sarabia’s ex-nanny has unleashed a crisis in the government of Gustavo Petro.

The 5 loose ends

And Minister Velásquez added that for the CTI and for the Sijín it is clear that it was a suicide. However, there are several loose ends.

Criminal lawyer Del Río, whom the officer sought out to represent him, told EL TIEMPO that Dávila assured that he knew he was intercepted and that they were following him.

In addition, that he told him that it was not true that in On the 13th floor, a mirror copy would have been made of the cell phone of Marelbys Meza, Sarabia’s ex-nanny. And although he admitted that he participated in the polygraph test that the former babysitter underwent, he would have been emphatic that there was nothing illegal.

The meeting with Del Río was on Thursday, June 8, in the Hotel La Fontana, north of Bogotá, and they arranged to see each other again on Saturday, June 10.

Del Río (who seizes one of the mayors involved in the illegal interception of the former babysitter) and others close to DAvila told this newspaper that he looked restless and anguished.

In fact, it is now known that the officer prepared a letter addressed to the Prosecutor’s Office in which he made himself available to collaborate in the investigation. What is striking is that the letter is dated June 2, but it was only filed on June 5.

“Why did it take so long to talk to the Prosecutor’s Office and to clarify what he had to clarify?” Asked a person who spoke with Dávila before he died.

And he added that it is evident that someone helped him prepare the letter addressed to the Prosecutor’s Office, “because it had legal elements that he did not handle.”

The colonel’s courier is one of the key pieces to clarify the case, as are the incoming and outgoing calls from his cell phone and the meetings he held.

The courier had been with Dávila for a long time and could be aware of what was bothering him. In fact, in a video revealed by Noticias Uno from the moment he went to buy the water he had asked for, the courier is seen leaning at least twice towards the truck where he had left his boss.

In addition, he wants to establish why he left his sidearm inside the truck. That was the weapon used by Dávila, who was not carrying his own.

‘I’m finished’

Colonel Dávila was a man trained in intelligence.

And there is another key element. The colonel spoke to the magazine Change. When the journalist Sylvia Charry asked his version of the illegal pokes to Laura Sarabia’s former babysitter and another employee, the colonel replied: “I don’t understand (…). First of all, I cannot pronounce myself before that. what a pity with you Rather, jum, they finish me (…). I don’t know about that, I couldn’t tell you (…). I can’t comment on any of that. Ready”.

The journalist says that on Friday the colonel dialed her cell phone and she was unable to answer. Then the suicide thing came out.

President Petro and the director of the Police attended the funeral.

EL TIEMPO was the only media outlet that entered the official’s funeral, which was attended by President Petro and the director of the Police, general William René Salamanca.

Friends of the officer drew attention to the fact that he was not honored with the Colombian flag and that, due to his training as an intelligence manwould have made the decision to commit suicide due to an inspection of his office or due to alleged threats: “He was solid, a man trained in intelligence”.

They also said that he was normally attending his office and that, even last week, he had been in Casa de Nariño with Laura Sarabia, when she was removing her things from the office and fainted: “He simply greeted her.”

Lieutenant Colonel Carlos Feria Buitrago, head of the Headquarters for Presidential Protection.

For now, the uniformed officers involved in the illegal interceptions have chosen to remain silent.

And in the coming days, other police officers mentioned in the investigation will be heard.

As anticipated by EL TIEMPO since May 30, the first to be called is Colonel Juan Carlos Feria Buitrago, jChief of Protection of Casa de Nariño and to whom the office in charge of Colonel Óscar Dávila depended.

In addition, the current director of the Dijín, General José Luis Ramírez Hinestroza, a senior official who took over the general direction of the Dijín, a unit that was in charge of the general Olga Patricia Salazar when Laura Sarabia’s ex-nanny was intercepted.
