Didier Bauwens, heard as a suspect, explains that he did not see Luis and Annelies on February 16 and 17, but that he had contact by messages with Anneliese, which is confirmed by the investigation.
From witness to suspect

She maintains that she did not manipulate her companion’s telephones during the night of the events, and that she did not make the bank transfers.

Diazepam was also found in the home of Didier Bauwens’ mother in Haine-Saint-Pierre. The medicine was delivered in the name of Didier’s half-brother. There are also tablets missing.
The accused’s mobile phones
The police continue to investigate the environment of the Gonzalez-Audain couple and analyze the telephone of Didier Bauwens, who has numerous telephone exchanges, by messages or verbally, with Anneliese Audain.

The police examined Anneliese Audain’s mobile phone and her internet searches, particularly regarding Diazepam and its side effects. Her emails also reveal that she owed more than 3,500 euros to the Londerzeel campsite and Electrabel.
On the night of the incident, she exchanged numerous messages on Messenger with Didier. A banal exchange, nothing suggests that they are going to commit a crime, quite the opposite.

Lots of disturbing elements
Investigators admit that they exploited all possible leads. A possible participation of Luis in drug trafficking? No, this is contrary to the information collected during the investigation. Why go out after consuming so much Diazepam? And then, no message or call encourages him to go out in the middle of a storm?
The elements collected all converge towards the accused: the research on Diazepam, on the murder weapon, on the canal, the bank transfers… Anneliese is interviewed for several hours by the investigators of the Charleroi PJ “She started crying, declaring that she had never considered that Didier could be involved in the facts,” declared a police officer. “At the end of her last interview, she looked at the table we drew up and she said: now it’s obvious,” says an investigator. Anneliese Audain spoke with her lawyer and said nothing more.
Nine hours of hearing
On November 10, 2020, Didier Bauwens was interviewed for nine hours, in the presence of his lawyer. He claims to be bipolar and doesn’t really give details about his schedule the weekend of the crime. “We asked him how a person could have committed such an act, he replied that he did not know because he was at his mother’s house the night of the incident. He did not understand why he was imprisoned, because no one had seen him at the scene, declaring that the investigation was being conducted against him,” says a police officer.
Confronted with specific searches carried out on the Internet, the accused maintains that he is innocent and that it is not him, that his phone has certainly been taken, certainly a customer of his café. He adds that he doesn’t like guns and doesn’t see the point in researching the channel. Regarding the Diazepam, he states that it was for his brother.
However, these searches are carried out in a very short time and they are all linked to the death of Luis Gonzalez Rojas. Furthermore, this research is not all done from his café.
For the police, he was aware that Luis was alone at home, in the gas, because of the messages received from Anneliese. In addition, Didier holds the keys to Luis’s house and no longer exchanges messages with Anneliese for a certain time, the night of the events.
Increasingly aggressive in his words, Didier Bauwens systematically cuts off the investigators, as he did on Monday with the president of the Assize Court.
Ten months later, the police learned that he had purchased a weapon, a 22 LR caliber, on February 15, 2020. A 22 LR caliber… like the murder weapon! The least we can say is that they struggled to obtain the seller’s confession. On Monday, Didier Bauwens declared that he had not bought a weapon.
Big cleaning
A cleaning lady said Anneliese Audain asked her to clean the house on Rue de l’Égalité in Bois d’Haine. On February 20, she was received by Didier Bauwens who gave her new products.
“He made her understand that he placed a lot of importance on the shower, the kitchen and the living room, and that she should use straight bleach. She used an abrasive sponge and a used toothbrush to clean the shower joints,” reported a police officer. She then cleaned the kitchen and living room, again using pure bleach. For what ?
On Friday February 21, the police arrived at Luis’ house to look for traces of blood. Apart from a small hemoglobin stain on the couch, the police found nothing…
Finally, the cleaning lady said that she saw Anneliese Audain lifting furniture, without complaining about her back, during the move. Strange for a woman who said she was unable to lift a dead body due to her health problems…
On Wednesday, investigators will continue their presentation and answer numerous questions that will be asked by the parties to the trial.
