There are truths in life that no one can deny (except Kyrie Irving). The Earth is round, one plus one equals two, and the All-Star Game is losing interest. The formats change but the star game no longer attracts anyone. The NBA is therefore considering a new idea to relaunch this iconic event of the season. And this idea could well be a match between the best Americans and the other nationalities.
After having already changed the format to remove the Conference labels, the NBA would be tempted to put them back soon to relaunch the All-Star Game, which has become the least sexy attraction of All-Star Weekend. Another idea would be to organize this star match between the best American players in the League against the best internationals. Insofar as the NBA is becoming more and more international with sequences of European and African MVPs, Adam Silver is considering applying this new concept. But when asked for his opinion before Game 3 of the Finals, he still had questions about the principle.
“It’s not a new idea, and when it’s happened in the past, we thought there would be such an imbalance. Not necessarily because of the competition on the field, but out of fairness to the players. […] If you choose from one group of 25% and the other group of 75%, it may not be fair. […]
I think that would be extremely exciting. Obviously we won’t do it this year by going to Indianapolis, where the All-Star Game is taking place, because we have to discuss it with the players’ association. But I think as this game goes global, with another international MVP this year, we should consider that and I think there would be huge excitement from the fans and I think the players would also be very enthusiastic”

As poto Adam says so well, it is above all a problem of proportion that prevents the NBA from putting it in place. Selections for the All-Star Game remain a level to reach for any player in the League, like an election in a five All-NBA or an MVP title. Making this feat more accessible to internationals than to Americans would probably be unfair. and the overall group of players would not fully represent the top 24 individuals of the season. In any case, we hope that the commissioner and his teams will find a solution so as not to reduce this flagship event of the League to nothing.
