The need for conventional fuels will continue as the global economy grows

The UAE Minister of Energy, Suhail Al Mazrouei, said that the rise in gas prices has accelerated the transition towards renewable energies, and that the need for conventional energy will continue with global economic growth.

Al-Mazrouei added, in an interview with Al-Arabiya, that all renewable energies need a basic source of energy, which must be from gas, nuclear energy, or other sources.

He pointed out that the transition towards electric cars will take some time, adding that the operation of electric cars requires electricity that is produced through energy, therefore Fossil energy will still be necessary.

He mentioned that there is an exaggeration in the transformation processes towards renewable energies, but there is a rise in the demand for electricity globally, noting that a country like India witnessed a rise in demand for electricity by 9% in the past year.

He continued: “These data indicate the need for an increase in renewable energy, but at the same time they do not indicate the need to reduce fossil energy.”
