The Netherlands wants to demand the extradition of Spartak footballer Quincy Promes, who was detained in Dubai. What the athlete is known for and why he was detained – in the material URA.RU.
Childhood Quincy Promise
Quincy Promes was born on January 4, 1992 in Amsterdam (Netherlands). His father, Jerry Promes, played amateur football and later was a bus driver. Mother worked in a company that organized funerals.
Since childhood, Promes loved football and supported Ajax Amsterdam. He said that he often ran to the playground in his native Osdorp region, where he had to fight with “blood, sweat and tears” for the right to play on the team. The first football school was RKCV, and then he was taken to the Ajax football club. His parents’ divorce led to problems with discipline, and he was expelled from his beloved FC. Then he even thought about giving up football, but his mother persuaded him not to give up the sport. As the player himself said, what happened made him change his outlook on life and set a goal – to return and play for Ajax.
The beginning of Promes’ football career
At the age of 19, Promes signed his first contract with the Twente school from Enschede. There he was brought up under the guidance of former national team forward Patrick Kluivert, who noted in the future star his willingness to work and wait for his chance. A year later, he made his first appearance on the field in a match of the top division of the Dutch championship in a game against Alkmaar.
In the summer of 2012, Promes was sent on loan to League Two club Go Ahead Eagles from Deventer. There he scored 13 goals, helping the team reach the elite division. Fans even nicknamed him Promessi, comparing him to Messi. After this, Twente returned Promes from loan. In the new championship, he scored in one of the starting rounds in the game against Utrecht and won a place in the starting lineup. This was followed by a scoring streak; in total, Promes scored 11 goals during the season. The young Dutchman attracted attention in Europe, but the Twente management was not satisfied with the financial proposals. However, Enschede could not resist when Spartak Moscow offered 10 million euros for the player.
Performance for Spartak
Promes quickly proved that it was worth the money that was invested in it. In 2014, in Spartak’s first official match at an open stadium, he scored a goal against Torpedo. Further, he demonstrated himself not only as a player who was taken to play on the flank, but also proved himself as a goalscorer. In his first season for Spartak, Promes scored 13 goals and gained popularity among fans, who, following the results of the championship, presented him with the “Golden Boar” – a prize that is traditionally awarded to the best player in the opinion of fans. Moreover, at that time he was given the nickname “Brother”. This happened after he said the phrase “how are you, brother” in the locker room to show his command of the Russian language. However, Promes himself admitted that he heard this word from the driver and did not know its meaning.
The following season, Promes scored 18 goals in all competitions. This led to his team qualifying for the European Cup. Based on the results of 2017, he was recognized as the best football player of the year in Russia. In the new season, he played for the first time in the Champions League, the main club tournament in Europe. The performance was unsuccessful for Spartak, but in the home match against Sevilla the Muscovites won 5:1, and Promes scored two goals and was recognized as the best player of the match. On the domestic stage, the Dutchman won the Russian Super Cup.
Spartak had an unsuccessful start to the next season, losing in the Champions League qualification to the Greek club PAOK. Club owner Leonid Fedun said that for this reason Spartak suffered losses. Promes was sold to Sevilla on August 31 for a record 20 million euros.

Performance in Spain and the Netherlands
Pomers signed a five-year contract with the Spanish club. Despite this, he only spent one season at Sevilla, scoring just three goals. The unsuccessful game also led to problems with the law. In a couple of months, the football player was detained by the police twice. The first time for hitting his wife while on holiday in Ibiza, and the second for drunk driving. In the summer of 2019, Sevilla admitted their mistake and sold the Dutchman to Ajax for almost 16 million euros.
Promes’ return to his home club was a dream come true for him. He bought a house in a prestigious area of the city, and in an interview with the club’s press service he said that all the time he was abroad he dreamed of returning to Amsterdam.

How does Promes live and how much does he earn?
Promes’s wife’s name is Jamie. The athlete met her at the age of 18, when he played for Twente. The couple had three children. According to Metaratings, based on his current contract with Spartak, he receives 3.5 million euros per year. At the same time, the document provides for additional payments upon achievement of certain results.
In the spring of 2022, Promes opened a hookah bar in Moscow called Black Star Lounge. According to the telegram channel “Mutko against”, at the end of the year the business generated losses in the amount of 16 million rubles. The establishment was closed in April 2023.
Criminal cases against Promes and return to Russia
On the night of July 25, 2020, at a family party in Amsterdam, Promes stabbed his cousin over suspicion of stealing a precious necklace from his aunt. The victim filed a statement four months later, but the police knew about the crime. It turned out that the football player’s phone was tapped during his conversation with his mother. And they followed his conversations because he was a suspect in a drug smuggling case.
It was reported that he invested 75 thousand euros in the purchase of two shipments of cocaine weighing more than 1.3 tons. The prosecution believes that Promes played a “leading” role in the case. The trial for the attack on the cousin ended in June 2023. Then he was imprisoned for a year and a half. In the case of cocaine smuggling, an Amsterdam court sentenced the athlete to six years in prison on February 14 this year, and on February 16 he was put on the international wanted list.
Promes did not appear in court and also did not admit guilt in smuggling. His defense said the charges were based on circumstantial evidence and prosecutors were interpreting telephone conversations to their advantage. In addition, the lawyer pointed out that Promes could not come to court, as this could harm relations with the employer.
Sportsman February 29 detained at the airport and taken to the police station. The next day it released from custody, but was prohibited from leaving the UAE. Journalist Ivan Karpov wrote that Promes was detained for leaving the scene of an accident, but the reasons for the detention were not officially reported. The press service of Spartak stated on March 3 that Promes will not return to Russia yet.
