One of the most famous names in performance engineering, TWR, will begin a new life as a custom car builder. The new company will channel the same spirit, drive and values that helped make the original Tom Walkinshaw Racing an icon.
Tom Walkinshaw, a driving force in both the motorsport and performance car worlds, founded the original TWR in 1975. Over the next nearly three decades, he created some of the most iconic and successful machines the world of high-performance engineering has ever witnessed. .
Walkinshaw was instrumental in sparking interest in motorsport among many class-leading automobile manufacturers. TWR’s favorite passenger cars include the Rover Vitesse, Holden Commodore, Mazda RX-7 and the cult classic Volvo 850 Estate. Then there are the road vehicle projects. The Aston Martin DB7 and Renault Clio V6 owe their existence to the innovative work and persuasive nature of Tom Walkinshaw.
Jaguar is noted for its long-standing and extremely successful relationship with Walkinshaw, and together they produced the infamous Jaguar XJR Group C Le Mans winning designs. The DNA from these cars was then used to create what would perhaps become Jaguar’s greatest production car, with TWR heavily involved in the creation of both the XJ220 and XJR-15.
