The next Need for Speed would be “next-gen” only

The title would arrive in 2022 on PS5 and Xbox Series.

Electronic Arts would deliver this year a new episode of its Need for Speed series, developed by the Criterion studio (Burnout). The title would be in development for several years and should logically be unveiled during this summer.

According to journalist Jeff Grubb, of VentureBeat, this would be a “next-gen only” episode. The next Need for Speed would thus be one of the first big budget games available exclusively on the latest generation consoles. In this case, PS5 and Xbox Series. A PC version would however also be in the cards.

If the rumor is to be taken with tweezers, we have observed for a few months a change of attitude of the developers, who are more and more likely to announce “next-gen only” titles. A change of attitude which should allow to finally see titles exploiting the potential of these machines. Most of the games released to date on both mediums were technically limited by the capabilities of “old-gen” consoles.
