The next Scream filmed in Montreal

Don’t be surprised if you run into Courteney Cox on the streets of Montreal this summer. The next film in the horror franchise Scream will be filmed in the metropolis from June, learned The newspaper.

According to our information, the filming of this sixth installment of the popular saga, created by the American filmmaker Wes Craven in 1996, will be spread over several weeks, from the beginning of June to the end of August. The film would have a budget of $35 million.

Actress Courteney Cox, one of the franchise’s original stars, recently confirmed to the American Podcast Just for Variety that she would be back in the next Scream (Chills) before specifying that “filming should begin in June in Canada”.

It is unknown for the moment if the other regular actors of the saga will be part of this new adventure. Released last January, the fifth Scream grossed $140 million at the worldwide box office.

A summer of filming?

Scream 6 is the first big American shoot to be confirmed for this summer in Montreal. After a difficult period in 2020 due to the pandemic, the summer of 2021 had been auspicious in terms of foreign shootings thanks in particular to the mega Hollywood production Transformerswhich has taken up residence in the metropolis from June to September.

According to the latest report from the Office of Cinema and Television of Quebec (BCTQ), 21 foreign productions (i.e. eight series and thirteen films) were shot in the province in 2021, generating economic spinoffs of $470 million, a gain of 30% compared to 2019.
