The countdown is running. By 2025, smartphones and a range of other smaller electronic devices will need to offer a USB-C port for charging. Apple is likely to switch sooner. The iPhone expected for this fall, at least that’s rumored, might switch from Lightning to the connection common to all other cell phone manufacturers.
