The foreign IT management platform service provider “Lansweeper” released a report earlier, revealing that after a sample survey of tens of millions of Windows PCs around the world, it was found that in the past three months, the upgrade adoption rate of Windows 11 has tripled. But compared to the proportion of other Windows systems, it is still quite niche, with only 1.44% adoption rate.

This data is also not as good as 4.7% of Windows 7 and 1.99% of Windows 8. In contrast, computers using Windows 10 system account for 80.34%, which is still the most mainstream computer operating system in the world.

“Lansweeper” also said that according to the hardware specifications of the devices scanned by its platform software, it is estimated that 55% of the computers in the world will not be able to upgrade to Windows 11 due to inconsistent hardware specifications. The reason why the ratio of being able to upgrade to Windows 11 is low is mainly because most computers do not actually have the “TPM 2.0” module, which is a necessary condition for installing Windows 11. In addition, compared with consumer PCs, servers are more efficient than consumer PCs. And only a smaller percentage use TPM.

Please read on…

TPM (Trusted Platform Module) is an independent hardware chip attached to the motherboard, while TMP 2.0 allows Intel or AMD to build TPM functions directly into their processing chips without additional purchases. It is therefore expected to expand the adoption rate of TPM and make it necessary for Microsoft to upgrade to strengthen the security of Windows 11.

“Lansweeper” believes that in addition to the hardware requirements, the update rate of Windows 11 may also be related to the fact that Windows 11 is generally regarded as a relatively large update version of Windows 10. There are not many core differences between the two, which leads to the tendency of most users or enterprises. Don’t take the risk, upgrade to a new version with relatively unproven user stability.

However, foreign media “Computer World” quoted analyst Gold Associates as saying that 55% of the world’s computers cannot be upgraded to Windows 11, which is too low, but it is difficult to judge the accuracy because it is unclear how the data is collected. The relevant data may need to wait for Microsoft to announce it in person before it is most accurate.
