Every day we are closer to the Oscar 2022 and if there is something very clear to us, it is that we want to see all and absolutely all nominated films at the most important film gala of the year. After this journey where we have recently seen the winners of the BAFTAs and the Critics Choice Awardsin addition to the well-known winners of the Golden Globes, we come to the end of the award ceremonies with some Oscar that promise to leave us many surprises.
Probably, and without counting the past two years, we are facing one of the longest waits we have had to know the winners of each of the ceremonies. Between confinement and postponements, lthe Academy Awards finally they are close and our preparation will have to be maximum to be authentic moviegoers who predict Oscars 2022 categories. Therefore, if we have already counted the different platforms, now it is the turn of the Disney, Disney+ and Star+. Where we find Mickey Mouse’s company as a constant among the favorites, year after year, in the animated categories, as well as visual effects.

Charm

Encanto is a film inspired by Colombia.
For many, Encanto is the big favorite to win the Oscar home under the name of ‘the best animated film of the year’. And, although pundits and critics are waiting for what could happen as a big surprise with The Mitchells vs. the Machines, our Latin heart hopes that the Disney production can win the distinction it has repeated since the Golden Globes, in addition to soundtrack and original song for the great delivery Lin-Manuel Miranda.

This claim of Steven Spielberg about the 1961 film, is one of the questions at the 2022 Oscars. Despite being nominated in seven categories, the 20th Century Fox film, now owned by Disney, has not managed to complete its degree of favorite in previous galas, but we well know that the Academy likes to surprise. West Side Story is nominated for Best film, direction, costume design, photography, sound mixing and production design. Being Ariana Debose, the favorite to take the Oscar to Best Supporting Actressabout Kristen Dunst and Judi Dench.

Interestingly, the film released in Latin America in Star+ (Disney platform)starring Ryan Reynolds, entered among the Oscar nominees. We say curiously, because it is not common to see this type of film, which we call ‘palomeras’ within the Academy nominations, but if there is one thing that is clear to us, it is that apart from being a ‘cult film’, the film has some visual effects worth recognizing.

We have mentioned countless times (and we will not stop mentioning) that the costume and makeup from the film starring Emma Stone It is worth recognizing and admiring. An issue that the Academy has not let go and has been nominated in both categories for the great work of Jenny Beavan in Costume Design and Nadia Stacey and Naomi Donne for makeup and hairdressing.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Simu Liu stars in the new Marvel Studios movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Again, a movie Marvel Studios –belonging to Disney– manages to sneak into the oscar nominations. Although they have their respective detractors, films of superheroes have marked the rhythm and thread of productions in recent years. This recognition is given to this production thanks to the visual effects.

The Pixar film is nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 2022 Oscars.
Luca was thePixar’s big bet this year. The film that taught us a great lesson about the value of friendship, its nomination for the category best animated filmseems to find great competition by being in the same category as the one that has swept the awards galas up to this point: Charm.

It is clear that Disney dominates the category of best animated film. Competing with Luca and Charm, the production that has the participation of the Mexican Carlos Lopez Estrada, it will be difficult to take home the award. However, what better occasion than the setting of the ceremony to verify the great lesson of Disney, in union and trust in this new story of dragons and princesses.
