Millions of packages are delivered in December before the holidays. The sorting centers are running at full speed. Report in one of them, in Douvrin, in Pas-de-Calais.

The way for Christmas presents is long before arriving under the tree. The time has come for sorting in the parcel platform at Douvrin (Pas-de-Calais), one of the most modern centers in France. In the huge hangar, 32,000 packages are processed every hour. In the coming days, in anticipation of the holidays, a peak of 910,000 daily parcels is expected.

With the health crisis, online shopping has increased and the phenomenon continues to grow. To cope with this increased demand, La Poste is increasing its workforce in December. “We are calling on 150 seasonal workers for the month of December, to keep up with the pace”, explains Olivier Sorriaux, director of the Douvrin parcel platform. Packages must be posted before December 21 to make people happy on New Year’s Eve.
