On average, 845 people with flu symptoms out of 100,000 inhabitants were seen last week by their general practitioner. The incidence rate is therefore high, but it also includes people infected with the coronavirus.
“We know that the number of Covid-19 contaminations is decreasing, the flu is therefore responsible for this increase in the figures”, specifies Steven Van Gucht. “However, we are seeing a slowdown across all charts, which means the peak is likely in sight.” If this is confirmed, it would mean that the fear of a strong flu epidemic, following a year without flu, has not materialized. Last year, the transmission of the virus had been contained by the sanitary measures in force.
The maintenance of certain rules at the start of the year has also delayed the epidemic, which usually begins in January or February.
