Ashraf Helal, Head of the Tools and Home Appliances Division at the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, said that the prices of household appliances increased by between 10 and 25%, in the past days, compared to prices two weeks ago, after the price of the dollar rose against the pound.
He pointed out that price increases vary according to brands and brands. He told Masrawy, among the most prominent household appliances whose prices have increased, are refrigerators and stoves, as many metals such as stainless and aluminum are used in their manufacture, which have increased by a large percentage during the last period.
He pointed out that the prices of aluminum, stainless steel, foil and transportation, which are basic materials in the home appliance industry, witnessed significant increases during the last period by more than 25% due to the imbalance in the supply chains and the rise in shipping prices.
The price of the pound witnessed a noticeable decline during Monday and Tuesday, March 21 and 22, and then some rise in the following days, compensating some of its losses, bringing the dollar’s price against the pound since March 21 until today to about 16.5%, as the average price in banks today recorded 18.26 pounds for purchase. , and 18.36 pounds for sale.
Helal stated that the rise in the prices of electronic chips contributed to the rise in the prices of screens, as the price of a 32-inch screen rose to 2,900 pounds, compared to 2,300 pounds, at the beginning of March.
He explained that the home appliances market is suffering from a major recession and low demand, as a result of the continuous rise in prices and the weak purchasing power of many citizens.
