The Chinese People’s Liberation Army recently conducted military exercises around Taiwan. Regarding my country’s accusation that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army flew over the “central line of the Taiwan Strait” as a provocative move, as well as the US Senator’s visit to Taiwan, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian said today (8): “The U.S. violated the one-China principle and escalated tensions in the Taiwan Strait,” adding that “the Taiwan issue is purely China’s internal affairs, and reunification is an absolute must.”
Recently, the Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army has organized multi-service joint combat readiness patrols and actual combat drills in the sea and air areas around my country. The PLA’s Eastern Theater Command stated that China’s exercise is aimed at external interference and “Taiwan independence” separatist forces. China will resolutely safeguard national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, and resolutely smash any “Taiwan independence” attempts.
In response to U.S. Senator Scott Scott’s recent visit to Taiwan, Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Wu Qian said: “This move by the U.S. side seriously violates the one-China principle and the three Sino-U.S. joint communiques, and seriously damages Sino-U.S. relations. China is firmly opposed to this, which seriously undermines the relationship between the two countries and the two militaries, and exacerbates the escalation of tensions in the Taiwan Strait.”
Wu Qian said: “The Taiwan issue is purely China’s internal affairs, and reunification is absolutely necessary.” He also said that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army is ready to fight all the time, and will resolutely thwart the interference of external forces and the separatist attempt of “Taiwan independence”, and the interference of external forces will never succeed. And resolutely defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
