The former professor at the Salzburg Mozarteum was praised above all for her Mozart style.

The pianist Ingrid Haebler, who taught at the Salzburg Mozarteum from 1969, died on Sunday. The SN learned this from their circle of friends. Growing up in Poland, she received her first piano lessons from her mother. At the beginning of the Second World War, the family moved to Salzburg, where the eleven-year-old made her debut with a piece by Mozart and her own composition.

She studied in Vienna, Salzburg, Geneva and Paris. After two prizes at the International Piano Competition in Geneva and first prize at the ARD Competition in 1954, her world career began. Haebler was especially praised for Mozart interpretations. Long before historical performance practice, she discovered the fortepiano of Mozart’s time for her style. In 2022 Decca released a box with 58 CDs: all recordings since 1953.
