Reports indicated that Ronaldo threatened to leave Portugal, following Fernando Santos, the coach of the team, decided to keep him on the bench during the 16th World Cup match once morest Switzerland, before pushing him in the 73rd minute of the match.
This was the first time that Ronaldo was left out of Portugal’s starting line-up during a major tournament match since 2008.
