The President of Estonia appointed the mayor of Viljandis as the new Minister of Justice

A. Karis first accepted the resignation of Kalle Laanet, and then appointed M. Timpson as the new Minister of Justice.

Next week, the new Minister of Justice will be sworn in in Rygikog.

Mr. Timpson said that the offer to take up the post of minister was unexpected, but he accepted it positively.

“I also consulted my relatives and everyone thought I was capable of taking on this responsibility,” he said.

Some time ago, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said that it is important that the future Minister of Justice has a legal education or work experience in this field.

“Madis Timpson also has leadership experience which will certainly be useful in his role as minister. He worked at the Ministry of Justice for seven years and for a long time was the head of the city of Viljandi. With his education and experience, Madis is a strong candidate for the Minister of Justice,” said the Prime Minister.

Mr. Laanet announced his resignation last week, after discussions with Mr. Kallas and media reports, following an investigation into misconduct related to the rental of an apartment from his stepson.
