Federal President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier, during a conversation with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, demanded an explanation due to the canceled visit to Kyiv. Earlier, the Ukrainian leader refused to meet with the head of Germany because of his “close ties with Russia.” This is stated by sources from both sides.

The journalist noted that Zelensky, according to several participants, initially expressed regret and talked about a major misunderstanding. He couldn’t really explain what happened either. In any case, he is grateful for the German help and would be glad if Steinmeier came to Kyiv soon.
The federal president wanted to travel to Kyiv with Polish President Andrzej Duda and three other Eastern European heads of state after visiting Warsaw. However, at the last moment, the Ukrainian authorities declared his visit “undesirable”. According to sources, Andriy Yermak, head of the office of the President of Ukraine, summoned the Polish ambassador and advised him not to take Steinmeier with him. Almost at the same time, Zelensky hung up on a phone call with the federal president. After German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that can’t visit Ukraine due to Steinmeier’s refusal to meet.
