ALGIERS- The President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, gave, Tuesday during a meeting of the Council of Ministers, instructions concerning the availability of widely consumed products on the national market, indicates the Council press release.
Concerning the monitoring of the availability of widely consumed products on the national market, “the President of the Republic gave instructions to the Minister of Agriculture to initiate coercive and drastic procedures to clean up the sector”, adds the press release.
The President of the Republic affirmed “the continuation of the subsidy by the Government of the prices of several imported basic necessities and the ban on any import operation of legumes, outside the Algerian Interprofessional Cereals Office (OAIC ), with precise determination of the stages of setting the price of the product.
The President of the Republic ordered “to authorize the exclusive importation of fresh red and white meats to satisfy national needs for this product and contribute to the reduction of their prices”, specifies the document.
He underlined the importance of “encouraging private investment in cold rooms to preserve market balance throughout the year”.

“The President of the Republic ordered the Government to acquire farmers’ products to prevent their deterioration, within the framework of the creation of the National Office of Agricultural Products, and store them in cold rooms.”
According to the same source, President Tebboune’s instructions also include “preserving the strategic national stock of agricultural and food products.”
The President of the Republic also ordered to “develop a clear communication policy, to inform citizens and keep them informed periodically and continuously of the availability of different basic products of wide consumption, with a view to “prohibit the use of the two terms ‘shortage’ and ‘speculation’, which aim to create a climate of panic on the national market, while allowing access to major international commercial brands”, adds the press release.
He also ordered to “involve the walis, in their capacity as those responsible for the economic sector, with a view to distinguishing between stock as part of the production chain and storage for the purposes of speculation.”
Also, the President of the Republic ordered to “determine the daily consumption of consumer products, through the creation of laboratories responsible for providing real, precise and periodically updated statistics”, according to the press release.
President Tebboune also urged to “intensify efforts to better address the daily concerns of citizens, which should be placed at the top of the priorities of all those responsible in all sectors.”
