The President suspended the powers of Kaunas judge V. Jegorovienė

As indicated in the decree signed by the president, the judge’s powers will be suspended until the decision of the Court of Honor of Judges comes into effect, and if, after examining the disciplinary case, the latter proposes to the president to fire V. Jegorovienė – until her release.

The Kaunas District Court announced on Thursday that during the suspension of powers, the judge will not be assigned new cases, and those under her jurisdiction will be reassigned to other judges. The participants in the process will be informed about the changed times of the court hearings in the prescribed manner.

According to the court, the presidential decree on the suspension of the judge’s authority allows “at least temporarily to prevent the violations committed so far”, the final decision will be made by the Court of Honor of Judges.

The Council of Judges, which met on Monday, decided to advise the president to suspend the powers of V. Yegorovienė. She satisfied the appeal of the chairman of the Kaunas district court, Arūnas Purvainis.

“This is a welcome decision, which is necessary to ensure the right to a fair trial and respect for human rights,” A. Purvainis said in a comment transmitted by BNS this week.

The chairman of the court asked the council to suspend the powers of the judge, because V. Jegorovienei has been reprimanded for disciplinary violations, and a third disciplinary case is currently being opened.

As A.Purvainis previously indicated to BNS, he made the request taking into account the fact that V.Jegorovienė’s behavior after the third disciplinary case filed on November 10 “not only did not change and did not improve, but only got worse and worse”.

According to A.Purvainis, complaints from parties to proceedings, their defenders, secretaries of hearings, other institutions, and notaries are constantly received due to V. Jegorovienė’s activities.
