The presidential vacancy in Lebanon.. Hezbollah puts the “cart before the horse”

It seems that Hezbollah is still insisting on pushing Lebanon to the brink of the abyss, by insisting on obstructing the election of a new president, despite the presidential vacuum that has been going on for nearly 5 months.

Despite the suffering experienced by the Lebanese, which is exacerbating day by day, Hezbollah’s insistence on obstructing the solution by imposing its candidate on the various political forces does not end.
Lebanon has been living in a presidential vacuum since the end of the term of outgoing President Michel Aoun on October 31.

The presidential vacancy comes on the heels of a severe economic crisis that led to a collapse in the exchange rate of the lira against foreign currencies, primarily the dollar, in addition to a significant rise in the prices of basic commodities and energy materials, which negatively affected the lives of the Lebanese, whose prime minister, Najib Mikati, failed to announce his government formation. Since last May due to political differences.

The Lebanese Parliament held 11 sessions to elect a new president for the country, all of which ended without result, due to the absence of consensus among the various political forces.
The President of the Lebanese Republic is required to be a Maronite Christian (the largest of the Christian denominations in Lebanon), and to obtain two-thirds of the votes of Parliament (86 out of 128).

Samir Geagea, head of the Lebanese Forces Party, criticized the position of Hezbollah and its ally, the “Amal” movement headed by Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, to impose their candidate, Suleiman Franjieh, on the rest of the political forces.

Geagea said, in his statements today, that “about a week after the Saudi-Iranian agreement, we did not see any change in positions and data in Lebanon.”
He added, “Hezbollah and Nabih Berri have become more attached to Suleiman Franjieh, especially since time is not in their favor, according to the appearance of the agreement.”
Geagea stressed that Hassan Nasrallah, Secretary General of Hezbollah, was not aware of what was going on in the regional sphere, indicating that he said in his penultimate speech that whoever bets on an agreement between Saudi Arabia and Iran to resolve the presidential crisis must wait a very long time.
Geagea commented on the Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt’s calls for dialogue and his attempt to propose names for the presidency that he considers appropriate for the stage, such as Kishbli Al Mallat and Jihad Azour, saying, “Friend Walid Jumblatt hates the vacuum and tries to fill it as much as possible, but I do not see anything like that.”
Geagea added, “Our wishes are for understanding with the other team, but until further notice, I believe that this team does not want a serious, strong and solid president. In the best case, it may accept a technocratic president who has no power or power in politics. This is what we reject because it does not solve the problem in light of elections.” pivotal presidency.
As for Representative Fadi Karam, he criticized Naim Qassem, Deputy Secretary-General of Hezbollah, who accused the political forces of obstructing the election of a president for Lebanon.
Karam said, in a statement today: “Whoever hears Sheikh Naim talking about those who play the role of obstruction in harmony with those who are unable to come up with a president and see obstruction and emptiness as an alternative, thinks at first glance that he is talking about his political team, then he accuses his opponents of a proven accusation that is rooted in the axis of resistance, starting with Disrupting the presidential elections, leading to the disruption of the formation of governments and the entire country’s facilities.
The statement added, “We remind Sheikh Naim that we participated in all sessions, and we repeatedly called for holding successive sessions, and we showed all readiness and constant readiness to participate, and we have a candidate who has the characteristics of salvation, and whoever refrains from invitations is you, and whoever obstructs you is you.”
Karam continued, saying, “Hiding behind the call for obstruction in the event that the opposition axis succeeds, and will not succeed, in gathering 65 deputies.
He directed his speech to Naim Qassem, saying, “Have mercy on the people, O Sheikh Naim, so stop your injustice against Lebanon and its people, and raise your hands from this country so that it can live in stability and peace.”
