The “Preve” Tournament will give a FIDE rating

The eighth edition of the “Físico Alejandro Preve Castro” Chess Tournament will be held from May 3 to 5, with seven categories and a prize pool of 70 thousand pesos.

The competition will take place at the Francisco de Montejo Sports Unit, in accordance with what was announced yesterday by the technical secretary of Sports of the City Council of Mérida, Jesús Aguilar y Aguilar, together with Carlos Arcila Villanueva, president of the Yucatecan Chess Association, and Erick Samson, director of Casa Chica.

It will be played in the ITT Wim Norn, Magistral Preve, Tercera Fuerza, Juvenil U-14, Infantil U-12, U-10 and U-8 divisions. Of the purse to be distributed, 10 thousand pesos will go to the Magistral.

The ITT and Magistral categories will be valid for the FIDE rating, so you will be required to be affiliated in order to make it valid.

The tournament, they commented in the presentation, serves to pay tribute to an important figure for Yucatecan chess, such as Alejandro Preve Castro, who despite being a successful physicist in his profession and businessman, always had time to dedicate himself to his greatest passion, chess.

He was the promoter and organizer of one of the most important chess tournaments in Latin America, the “Carlos Torre Repetto” International Tournament, where different young candidates for the top and many of the best Grandmasters of the time have participated.
