“The prosecutor will not be an obstacle to the exercise of government by President Petro”: Barbosa

Around 3:00 p.m. this Tuesday, the President of the Republic, Gustavo Petro Urrego, met with the Attorney General of the Nation, Francisco Barbosa, at the Casa de Nariño, where they discussed issues such as national security , the ELN, justice, among others.

“A very cordial meeting where we trace the lines of joint work within the framework of the harmonious collaboration that will exist between the Attorney General’s Office and the National Government, many joint work camps, there is a spirit of work and the objective is that we good luck to everyone in this country, accompany the president in the different initiatives”, explained Barbosa.

The attorney general assured that, although they will support the Government, the entity will maintain its autonomy and independence in its work and competencies. Topics such as human rights, the dismantling of criminal groups, the environment, among others, were also addressed.

Faced with the decision of the Prosecutor’s Office, which issued a resolution suspending any arrest warrant against ELN negotiators for three months, Barbosa assured that they will abide by all decisions made by the President.

“The Prosecutor’s Office will accompany what it has to accompany in this process, of course, respecting the decision made by President Petro,” explained Barbosa.

The head of the investigative entity also assured that with the Colombian president they discussed more issues around the ELN, but reiterated that they are private matters due to their relevance.

In front of the members of the first line who are still captured, the prosecutor assured that, together with the Minister of Justice, Néstor Osuna, they discussed a few days ago about the processes that are being carried out in each case, he also reiterated that the Prosecutor’s Office did not is persecuting any person.

“We are talking about people who have committed crimes, because of course they have judicial traceability, we are seeing what the numbers are. It is necessary to all agree to establish protocols, even in joint work, in order to harmonize the figures, the Prosecutor’s Office continues with its investigations “

Regarding the differences that the prosecutor had with the president while he was a candidate, Barbosa assured that they have already been overcome and his main interest is to work together with the government.

“We are going to gain confidence in a country among its institutions, in the midst of so many difficulties in the country, the prosecutor is there, my spirit of peace is there, we continue to exercise criminal prosecution powers in Colombian territory and multiple cases, but the prosecutor It will not be an obstacle for the exercise of the Government of President Petro”.

Finally, in the case of the murder of three young people in the municipality of Chochó, in Sucre, the prosecutor confirmed that so far 10 arrests have been made, who will be ordered before a guarantee judge to legalize their capture and order security measures.
