The Rabenhof Theater in Vienna’s third district, which owes its name to the municipal building of the same name in which it is housed, has been managed by Thomas Gratzer for 20 years. The director and actor has built a theater here at the interface of literature, cabaret, music and political show, developed new formats and offered the off-scene, from which he himself comes, a stage. In 2003 he took over the theater from Karl Welunschek and repositioned it. Thomas Gratzer talks to Katharina Menhofer about his career, which lay between established high culture and cheeky underground, about the importance of the Rabenhof in the Viennese theater landscape, about his popular theater ambitions and about what the coming season will bring at the Rabenhof.
