Among 732 retired teachers, the primary level has the largest number of 327 teachers, followed by the lower secondary level with 186 teachers, the preschool level with 118 teachers and the upper secondary level with 99 teachers, with 2 specialized teachers.

Mr. Ho Tan Minh – Chief of Office of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that Thu Duc City and 9 districts are recruiting teachers to serve teaching work. However, the shortage of teachers and recruitment does not affect the current teaching situation, because all schools have been stable since the beginning of the year.

In particular, schools actively arrange and arrange teachers to teach overtime within the prescribed framework. At the same time, increase the number of lecturers and short-term contracts for teachers to solve the shortage of teachers.

Mr. Minh assessed that some subjects at primary and secondary level are lacking in recruitment sources such as Music, Fine Arts, Foreign Languages, Informatics, Technology

The reason is that the pedagogical schools in the South have little training (eg Technology). For highly trained subjects such as Informatics, English, the requirement of the Ministry of Education and Training is to have a pedagogical certificate to be able to work as a teacher. Meanwhile, the pedagogical training in schools is facing difficulties, the training time must be more than one year.

Another reason, the observance period at each school level is different. At the primary level, they have to teach 23 lessons/week, the middle school has 19 lessons/week, and the high school has 17 lessons/week. Therefore, most students when they graduate from school, they choose junior high and high school to reduce the compulsory teaching period.

In addition, graduates also choose to enter a business instead of a unit with a basic salary. “This is a general difficulty across the country, not just in Ho Chi Minh City,” emphasized Mr. Minh.

It is known that in the coming time, the education industry in Ho Chi Minh City will continue to have a recruitment plan to meet the needs of teaching. In addition, the department also ordered schools such as Saigon University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education to have many subject teachers – especially gifted teachers to supplement resources.

The education and training sector is consulting the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to develop a project to attract human resources for primary and secondary school teachers, teachers of gifted subjects; retain good teachers at the units.
