Lionel Messi, the new American Inter Miami player, explained the reason for the failure of his former team, Paris Saint-Germain, and bid farewell to the Champions League early.
Messi said in statements on BN Sports: “I am 35 years old, and I am no longer the same player who was in Barcelona years ago.”
He added, “In my first season with Paris Saint-Germain, I faced many difficulties, and things were much better in the second season.”
He explained: “The holding of the World Cup in the middle of the season drained a lot of our energy. Some players returned to training late, and others took additional vacations.”
Messi indicated: “A large number of players were injured, which forced the coach to change the team’s plan, and we missed very important elements, especially Neymar.”
He continued: “The World Cup requires a lot, but it is not an excuse at all, because many players participated in the World Cup.”
He concluded: “But in general, our level in the French League or the Champions League was greatly affected after the World Cup, as all teams resumed their careers at a different pace.”
Messi left Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the last season and announced his move to American Inter Miami, in a surprising step for everyone after he rejected an attractive offer from Al Hilal Saudi Arabia, and closed the door to returning to Barcelona again.
