Not everything is to be thrown away in the Standard season, and that’s a consolation like any other. After the access to the futsal section in D2, and while waiting for the final of the Belgian Cup for women, on May 14 against Anderlecht, the Espoirs have validated their ticket for the D1B, next season.
The victory would undoubtedly have been more beautiful, but a share was enough to validate the D1B ticket. And the young people of Liège, after an average first period, were able to put their ideas in order, to finish better. Next season, they will return to Sclessin, as they did on Monday evening, to play their matches against RWDM, Beerschot or Waasland-Beveren, or even Anderlecht and Club Brugge.
The public had made the trip (1,569 people present), and the Ultras, who set the mood, smoke bombs and songs in support, were able to celebrate something, too, this season. They did not fail to share their joy.
For Standard, the affair had been well handled, with a quick opener, a resumption of the head of Kuavita at the reception of a cross from Dumont. But Charleroi, not impressed, was able to settle into the meeting, without getting upset.
Monticelli caused a foul from Ngoy which brought a penalty, converted by De Moerloose, then Wasinski concluded a corner, just before the break, to give the advantage. The Zèbres, more mature, had better mastered their highlights in the first period, when the Liégeois appeared more on the reserve.
The fourth quarter of an hour, at least, was more successful, and it had started well with a marvelous goal from Labila, a chisel, on receiving a center from Dumont, again. Standard, more enterprising, created better chances to dominate a second period crossed by relief, all the same, when Epolo deflected a heavy shot from Lutte.
