the refractory will pay dearly

Since January 1, 2023, consumers who have not accepted the installation of the Linky meter will be taxed for their electricity statements.

The least we can say is that the counter Linky has caused a lot of ink to flow since its debut. Between the refractory to this connected device or the few technical incidents encountered by certain customers, the little yellow box had to jostle to win.

However, there are still many homes that do not have one and do not want to hear about Linky in their homes. Households which will now have to pay a surcharge.

Up to 50 euros per year

It is therefore this January 1, 2023 that the deliberation voted last February by the Energy Regulation Commission (CRE) for the overbilling of households having refused Linky comes into force. Two scenarios are to be taken into account:

  • If you have sent a manual reading to Enedis via your old generation meter, there will be no billing for the service until 2025. After that, you will have to pay or install Linky.
  • If you do not have a Linky and you have not sent any manual readings to Enedis over the last 12 months, Enedis will ask you €8.30 every two months (i.e. €49.80 excluding tax per year) to carry out these readings directly at the consumer’s.

10% of households not equipped

In France, Enedis estimates that nearly 10% of eligible households, or nearly 4 million, have not yet benefited from the installation of Linky even though they were entitled to it. In most cases, it is refractory customers who fear the electromagnetic fields created by the connected meter, for others it is simply a matter of not installing a device considered a monitoring device.

Others did not follow to the few incidents, including fires, which took place in some homes.

Some exceptions

Only these refractories will be affected by this overbilling. Enedis specifies that people who cannot benefit from a Linky meter for technical reasons will be able to continue to transmit their readings manually at no additional cost until a solution is put in place.
