A group of about ten people stationed themselves early on the river bank. at the arrival buoy of the second stage of the Río Negro Regatta. They attracted attention with a couple of well-displayed flags, all dressed in the identifying clothing and telling whoever wanted to hear the reason for their presence at the climax of the partial that linked Ingeniero Huergo with Villa Regina

The Municipal Canoeing School of Villa Regina It is in its third season and is the first of its kind with a consolidated project in a city where the river is intimately incorporated into society through the enormous and charming spa on Island 58.

How is it possible that a city with so much connection to the river do not have a legion of paddlers representing Regina in the longest Regatta in the world? Gabriela, one of the promoters of this idea, explains it.

«It is the first active canoeing school that the city has, so we are pioneers in this. We currently have more than 40 students in the school and we have two instructors who come every Saturday from Roca to share their knowledge with us. They are Edgardo ‘Cacha’ Salazar, who is racing the Regatta in K1 master C, and Norma Guajardo.

The school has students ranging from 9 years old and up with no age limit. «We are proud to be here, appearing in our first Regatta to welcome our teacher, who is in competition. The idea is to have some paddlers from the School running the Regatta for the next edition. I hope to be one of them.”says Gabriela who has been rowing three times a week on the coast of Island 58 for more than two years.

The Reginense School shares the comprehensive idea that every city in the region where the river passes is capable of helping to develop canoeing in the region. «All this encourages one to turn to sport, to prepare and promote activity. The point is to work together and row so that this grows little by little. We do not have space, so we are open to all those who want to join this initiative,” completed the spokesperson for this group that is committed to the dissemination of canoeing.
