There are certain brands whose evolution we like to follow with an attentive eye, as ambitions and originality are at the heart of development. This is the case of Oppo, the brand owned by BBK, alongside Realme and OnePlus. After innovations such as the slider camera of the Oppo Find X, or even promising collaborations like the Oppo Find X2 x Lamborghini, the brand has reached a certain maturity, embodied by the new Oppo Find X5 5G . Here’s why.

Oppo smartphones, we have been following them a bit since the very beginning at UPtech. In 2022, it is clear that the manufacturer has come a long way. Delivered in a minimalist box in line with what is done today with most competitors (Samsung, Realme, etc.), the Oppo Find X5 5G is accompanied by its SuperVOOC 80W power supply, with its USB- C as well as a small USB A to C adapter. Quick start guide and SIM key are of course included. Barely out of the box, the Find X5 dazzles us. The slightly curved design is neat and couldn’t be more premium. Black chrome aluminum frame and satin glass surface give our model a certain elegance. On the back, the protrusion of the photo module is particularly well smoothed by the curves that surround it, very gently. The latter also displays a particular shape, to which we will return below. Assemblies and finishes are perfect. We find USB-C port and SIM drawer on the lower edge, leaving the upper edge completely free. Finally, our only regret remains the absence of a jack output, a bit of a shame for those who can’t do without their favorite headphones or pair of wired headphones, especially at this price. But hey, it’s becoming the norm…

The good surprises continue once the smartphone is in hand. The Oppo Find X5 5G is a smartphone that combines large format and comfort of use. At the front, we benefit from a large 6.55-inch AMOLED panel for a very comfortable Full HD + display on a daily basis. It’s clear, crisp, and precise in all circumstances, not to mention the feeling of fluidity offered by the refresh rate of 120Hz. The screen covers almost 90% of the front surface, down to the curved edges and with its punch front camera. The approximately 196 g and 160 mm long for 72.6 mm wide and 8.7 mm thick are perfectly balanced, and sublimated with a detail that kills for a perfect grip: the work of the back cover. On the back, the particular shape of the photo module actually makes it possible to obtain a small “hollow” with an angle of 75°, which allows us to naturally wedge the right index finger there when we take the Oppo Find X5 One-handed 5G. Add to that a surface with a matte appearance but with a very soft satin feel… We simply don’t want to put a protective shell on this Find X5. On the interface side, the fluidity of navigation is coupled with a ColorOS overlay that is still very refined and intuitive, close to the iOS experience on iPhone (gestures, theme). Nothing to say on that side.
Performance and multimedia: why go Pro?

Under the hood, the Oppo Find X5 5G is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 5G processor, supported by 8 to 12 GB of RAM for 128 to 256 GB of storage. When the storage space is sufficient, it is also possible to “increase” the RAM, in order to gain in performance. So we used our Find X5 5G in 8 + 3 GB of RAM. Velocity and stability are there in intensive use. The smartphone holds without flinching through gaming, streaming, and browsing, all always at maximum quality. Very appreciable performance in photo and video mode, when using the triple 50 + 13 + 50 megapixel module. The shots, precise and with natural colors, take advantage of Hasselblad’s color calibration technology. The colors flatter the eye without ever overdoing it, and only the 2-axis stabilization (compared to 5 on the X5 Pro) is a little less effective during night / low-light photos, for which we prefer to use a support or a tripod. Moreover, gyro-EIS stabilization and recording up to 4K 60 fps + HDR and 10-bit are very strong on the video part. Few concessions to the Find X5 Pro in general, for results that are more than satisfactory on a daily basis!
Autonomy and conclusion: not the most enduring… but!

Finally, the Oppo Find X5 5G is powered by a 4,800 mAh battery. This allows the smartphone to last a long day of intensive use, without problems, but not much more. Very correct in absolute terms, the autonomy remains however below certain references such as the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Two days of moderate use is possible but somewhat frustrating given the prowess of the smartphone. The big highlight is obviously the SuperVOOC 80W ultra-fast recharge. This allows the Find X5 5G to recover almost 50% in 10 minutes of charging, and to perform a complete cycle in about thirty minutes. Suffice to say that autonomy is no longer really a problem when recharging takes so little time, as is increasingly the case in this field. Finally, and unlike many smartphone families, the Oppo Find X5 5G does not make that many concessions to the Pro model. A less defined but more than sufficient screen, a less stabilized but more than sufficient camera, are the only two “concessions”. And with a €300 difference for features whose absence bothers us much less than some models that lose a photo sensor, or screen technology in passing, the choice is quickly made. At €999, the Oppo Find X5 5G is 100% validated!
