We had almost forgotten it. The problem of the strong franc was passed over in silence for almost three years, placed in the background of concerns for Swiss SMEs. Firstly due to the health crisis, which caused business to plummet drastically, leading in particular to blockages in supply chains. Then, in particular, because of the catch-up effect which followed and mechanically caused the industry’s order books to jump by more than a quarter on average in a few weeks.

The strength of the franc returns to play spoilsport, evolving at historic levels in recent days against the euro. This was worth 0.9449 francs on Friday, a record, and 0.94866 francs on Tuesday. Enough to shake up the relative balance found over the last eight years after the shock of the abolition of the floor rate.
